Internships at Pickford Film Center

Pickford Film Center is seeking organized, motivated, creative-thinking film lovers to join our team. The only independent cinema in Bellingham, PFC is a vibrant non-profit cultural organization conveniently located in Downtown Bellingham, with a fun, positive work environment and a small, friendly staff. These internships are the perfect opportunities for someone who is interested in film as well as a possible career in arts administration, event coordination and/or marketing. This is an unpaid internship, with approximately 8 – 12 hours a week. We are glad to work with you to earn university credit. You are not required to spend all of your hours at the cinema offices and you can set your own work schedule, but quick communication and timely email response is appreciated. Perks include free movies and concessions, a casual work environment, and a variety of other things including an insider’s view of day-to-day operations of a nationally renowned independent movie theatre.

 

MARKETING and OUTREACH INTERNSHIP

Category: Public Relations/Marketing

The marketing intern will take direction from the Marketing Manager and will work on a wide variety of outreach methods to assist in promotion of the regular programming, film series and special events at PFC and the Limelight Cinema.

Main Responsibilities:
• Event outreach: update event calendars, , and generate awareness of programs
• Grassroots marketing research: research organizations for targeted film outreach
• Help draft copy for press releases
• Social Media: Assist in social networking outreach
• Assist in creation and distribution of promotional materials for the theater, including flyers, posters, and postcards
• Help host filmmakers and special guests, moderate Q+A’s, or run Skype discussions
Qualifications:
• Pursuing a degree in Public Relations, Communications, marketing or a similar field
• Must be comfortable in both a Mac and PC environment, familiar with email, and able to navigate Google Drive and Dropbox
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
• Must be extremely detail-oriented with a keen eye for accuracy
• Have the ability to work independently and collaboratively

GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERNSHIP

The graphic design intern will take direction from the Marketing Manager and will work on a wide variety of design projects to assist in promotion of the regular programming, film series and special events at PFC and the Limelight Cinema.

Main Responsibilities:
• Assist in creating branding identities for new film series and special events
• Design materials such as posters, bookmarks, slides, signs, ads, and others
• Website and digital marketing support
• Other projects including lobby displays, banner design, archiving and more
• Assist in maintaining collateral and merchandise displays as needed
• Depending on the time of year, outdoor event support like Rooftop Cinema, creation of informational/educational materials to support screenings such as during Doctober
Qualifications:
• Pursuing a degree in Graphic Design or a similar field
• Must be comfortable in both a Mac and PC environment, familiar with email, and able to navigate Google Drive and Dropbox
• Experience with: InDesign, Photoshop, and iMovie a plus
• Applicant should be familiar with HTML, WordPress, and designing for the web
• Must be extremely detail-oriented with a keen eye for accuracy
• Have the ability to work independently and collaboratively

DIGITAL MEDIA INTERNSHIP

The digital media intern will take direction from the Marketing Manager and will work on projects related to promotion of the regular programming, film series and special events at PFC and the Limelight Cinema.

Main Responsibilities:
• Assist in creating media to update the PFC website and social media
• Video work would include: Short length projects and videos for social media, Trailers to play in the cinemas before films, teasers, taping introductions
• Website and digital marketing support
• Photography projects may include: Event photography, Portraits of staff and board, Documenting Archives
Qualifications:
• Pursuing a degree in Photography, Design or a similar field
• Must be comfortable working with Google Drive, Dropbox and other digital media platforms
• Experience with: InDesign, Photoshop, and iMovie a plus
• Must be extremely detail-oriented with a keen eye for accuracy
• Have the ability to work independently and collaboratively
