The Storyteller's Seasonal is a quarterly showcase celebrating the work of local filmmakers across Bellingham and Whatcom County. Four times a year, short films from independent creators at every skill level take the big screen in a low-pressure, supportive environment. Come celebrate the filmmakers in your community.


Are you a filmmaker? Submissions are open to all skill levels. This is your chance to share your work with your community and see it on the big screen.

  • Projects are generally accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
  • All types of projects are welcome to be submitted, including but not limited to narrative films, documentaries, music videos, commercials, and PSAs. Works-in-progress are encouraged!
  • Projects are encouraged to be 15 minutes or less. Longer films will be considered, but may not be selected if there are time constraints within the overall program.
  • When submitting, please provide a downloadable link to your project in the field provided on this page. Preferences include Dropbox, Google Drive, Vimeo, or FilmFreeway.
  • MP4 or MOV file types are preferred, as well as H.264 Codec. A minimum video quality of 1080p is encouraged, though The Pickford on Grand theaters are optimized with 4k projectors and 7.1 Dolby surround sound audio systems. Filmmakers are welcome to submit their own DCP (projection) files, though The Pickford's general practice is to create DCPs for filmmakers using traditional file types that directly translate video and audio quality. 
  • The use of Generative AI images or audio is discouraged and is likely to result in not being selected for showing. 
  • The Pickford Film Center reserves the right to decline showing a project at our discretion and for any reason, including but not limited to gratuitous violence, sexual content, promoting racism, sexism, or any other form of hatred.

Description



The Storyteller’s Seasonal is a quarterly, hour-long event that consists of short films (15 mins or less) submitted from students and DIY filmmakers from our area, and the filmmaker whose film wins the audience vote chooses the next Seasonal’s quarterly theme.
The Seasonal is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and cultivate the visual storytelling of filmmakers at all levels and to provide a venue where these visual storytellers can share their ideas in a supportive, fun and low-pressure environment. So please do come and enjoy with us the creative endeavors of these local and emerging filmmakers!
