Sirens Call
Shot on luminous 16mm film and drifting seamlessly between documentary, science fiction, and road movie, Sirens Call follows Gina Rønning, a psychologist and performance artist who identifies as a siren navigating an increasingly troubled world. Through the persona of Una—a mermaid returned to Earth during a time of ecological crisis and political upheaval, Rønning embarks on a journey across the United States in search of connection, belonging, and fellow merfolk. Her travels ultimately lead her to Portland, where she discovers a thriving community that has transformed the mythology of hybrid sea creatures into a powerful form of self-expression, mutual care, and political activism. As Una and her companions navigate a landscape shaped by environmental uncertainty and social division, filmmakers Miri Ian Gossing and Lina Sieckmann blur the boundaries between imagination and reality, crafting a dreamlike portrait of people who have chosen to live beyond conventional definitions of identity. Both visually enchanting and politically resonant, Sirens Call uses the language of fantasy to explore urgent questions of queerness, community, and belonging in a rapidly changing world.Documentary, Drama, Science FictionPT2H1M2026-10-10DEdeLina Sieckmann
