In the meantime, as Doctober is still two seasons away, enjoy our spring cinematic offerings: Housekeeping for Beginners and Civil War continue for one more week, and the hilarious Wicked Little Letters starring the inimitable Olivia Colman and marvelous Jessie Buckley (together again after they both starred in the marvelous The Lost Daughter), is the newest film on our screens. 

It’s a wonderful lark of a film, based on a real life incident, and as Sheila O’Malley writes in her lovely review for Ebert, “Wicked Little Letters is a really effective British mystery, spiked with the comedy of a real caper, with sneaky people bicycling down lanes, or literally crouching in the bushes staring at a mailbox.” In other words, exactly the sort of film that promises a good time at the cinema. And it lives up to that promise, and then some, with Colman and Buckley, particularly, fully embodying their characters, whether it’s the buttoned-up Edith (Colman) or free-spirited Rose (Buckley).
